The darling buds of May...

I'm probably a little biased as May is my birth month but I really think may is the best month, and so far this year is no exception. We've been so busy since we got back from holiday (when I say I'm busy my friends scoff and snigger, I don't mean busy busy I just mean fun busy ;) ).

Last week was a bit of a blur. It was my best friends birthday last Tuesday. We had arranged to take both our sets of children out for dinner as both our husbands were meant to be away but in the end they were able to join us. It really was a fantastic evening spent laughing and eating (does life get any better than that?).

I had got myself fully dressed for the evening. I loved the outfit I chose...until I got Ben to take a photo for this blog. I had checked in the mirror before I left my room and was perfectly happy with what I saw but having looked at the photo I went straight back upstairs and started again. I think in future I will always check what I look like on the camera than in a mirror.

I love the outfit, I love the bag and matching shoes...I did not however love the bloated tummy, the obvious sign of a misspent holiday!!

It wasn't the worst bloated belly I've ever seen...or ever had come to that but I just didn't feel comfortable going out like it having seen myself. I really love the outfit and if I can stay off bread, cheese and ice cream for a couple of weeks I w…

I really love the outfit and if I can stay off bread, cheese and ice cream for a couple of weeks I will give it another go. You can imagine the sheer delight of Chris and the boys as I headed back indoors to get changed. hahahahahahah...

The shoes and bag combo are so cute, although the shoes are very high and I tend to fall over in them (what's new in that though!?!).

Practicing for my quick change artist act I chose this outfit as speedily as I could. The top being baggy calmed my self consciousness about my belly sticking out...and just in case anyone was just about to be kind and reassure me that it's not that bad, I was shopping in John Lewis the other day with my pregnant friend Kim looking for a small folding baby buggy, she had wandered off and the lady in there thought the purchase was for me and my impending arrival and when I said it wasn't for me her eyes darted to my belly and a look of confusion set in...much to Kim's delight on her return!!! Hahahahahahahahahahah...

Thursday night we went to friends for dinner and then Friday we were planning an early night but our darling friend invited to Canary Wharf in London, for an impromptu night out to surprise his gorgeous wife. Chris dashed home and we went up, with just time enough to spare for us to be sitting ready waiting to surprise Di. It really was good fun but didn't do much for the waisteline and whole bloated belly issues ;)

I wore my very stretchy leather look jeggings and this gorgeous floaty top from The white company.

Saturday I had a fabulous day out. My bestie and her hubs were off out for the day so I borrowed their beautiful daughter Elle for a girlie shopping trip, we had a wonderful time. Chris and Ben went off and did their boy shopping and Elle and I spent many hours trying on the delights in Topshop et al!! As much as I love shopping with Chris and the boys it's so nice to have some girly time. I think we exhausted every combination the stores had to offer. Elle bought quite a few bits and bobs which looked stunning on her. I bought just one thing (shock, horror!) in a shop called Anthropology, it's a really lovely top in my staple navy blue...I'm beginning to wonder if navy is some sort of self imposed uniform.

We took a shopped out Elle home, she was very happy Chris suggested a trip to Bluewater. Then we briefly caught up with Elle's gorgeous aunty who I adore, who was over for a quick trip from Dubai where she lives. It was a fantastic day!

Then Sunday afternoon was spent at a Baby Shower, my first one, this is a fairly new import from the US, we didn't have such things when I had my boys 20 odd years ago. But having seen them on TV and films forever I was really very excited! What's not to love, a catered buffet and cake, lots and lots of cake!

What does one wear to an occasion in uncharted waters? Plus having been rather self conscious of my big gut I wasn't keen to wear anything tight fitting. But thankfully I had bought a new top whilst out shopping the day before. On the advice of my good self - "if the fronts a mess - accentuate the back!!" This top feels so nice on and I love the wrap over detail on the back. The silver lining to my big gut is the weight gain enhances my big bum! hahahahahahahahah what? it's a great bum ;) With a rather unglamourous bag of poo stuck to one's tummy you've got to take your wins where you can.
